Typically bred for hunting and field trials, American labs are exuberant and full of energy. They are slighter than their English counterparts, with thinner fur and the body of a hunting dog. American labs are energetic and require a lot of activity such as walking, running, and playing.

Fox red labs are a shade deeper than a traditional yellow lab. Often referred to as ruby labs, these puppies are prized for their gorgeous coats.

When you think about labrador puppies, you probably think of yellow labs. They’re one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and for good reason. Useful in a variety of applications from hunting to therapy and guiding the visually impaired, yellow labs have a sweet, gentle disposition.

A white labrador is simply a yellow lab with a much lighter coat. They have the same qualities and distinctions as their more yellow iteration despite their paler color. If you like yellow labs but want something a bit more distinctive, consider white labs.

Although anecdotally these dogs are more aggressive and less trainable than other colors of labs, the environment a puppy is bred and raised in makes a world of difference. If you take the time to train your dog and praise its favorable behaviors, there’s no reason you shouldn’t get a black lab or a chocolate lab.
